Avery Chen
I'm a first-year Master's student at Stanford University, studying CS with an AI specialization. I research the effects of AI on the economy at the Stanford Digital Economy Lab, working closely with Bharat Chandar on the AI Economic Indicators.
Previously, I graduated from UC Berkeley in three years with a B.A. in Computer Science, completing the EECS Honors Program with a concentration in Economics. I conducted research at the Berkeley Artificial Intelligence Research Lab, improving machine translation for low-resource Asian languages through the MITRA Project and co-first authoring a paper. I also explored GUI agent automation in collaboration with Panasonic. I've worked as a software engineering intern at Google, Aurora, and the Penn Wharton Budget Model, where I began as a research intern scraping and cleaning 100 years of Census data.

As part of Fall 2025 CS 180, I completed a variety of projects implementing recursive image pyramids, image filters for blurring and isolation of frequencies, autostitching photo mosaics with homography and feature detection, NeRF, and diffusion models. Pictured is a panorama of the San Francisco skyline that I autostitched from multiple photos.
As a huge Survivor fan, I have always wondered whether it is possible to predict who will win! In this project, I utilized open-source Survivor data and a multivariate logistic regression model to predict which contestants would win Survivor.
